Veteran iUniverse author Sally McGuire tells us about her latest release, The Missing Letters, Book One of A Heart of Gold.
Please briefly describe your book . . .
My book The Missing Letters from the series A Heart of Gold is about an eleven year old boy named Neo. Neo does not want to move away from the only home he’s ever known – the home that contains all the memories of his late father. When he and his mother relocated from San Francisco to Long Beach, California he did not find much to be curious or excited about until he looked out of the window of his new room. What is it about the strange old woman on the porch across the street? Neo is inexplicably drawn to her as a neighborly gesture results in some life-altering adventures for the young boy and his mother.
I have written many short stories and always keep a journal. My love of researching the history of various cultures earned me an award for excellence. I am also the author of romance novels Destined to Love, Forever Yours, and Devil in Disguise. I live in New York with my son.
Do you have any particular literary influences or inspirations?
The Missing Letters is Book 1 from the series A Heart of Gold. The next book in the series is There Is a Bully in My Class. My ten year old son is the inspiration behind the series. I am using the close bond that we share to make the story line come alive.
Todd Strasser, Tim Green, Danielle Stelle, Porscha Sterling are all authors whose books I enjoy.
Are there any events, marketing ideas, or promotions planned for your book?
Yes. I would be having a book launch in October. I have received invites from a few schools in the New York area. They would like me to read with kids and discuss my book.
What was your favorite part of your publishing experience, overall and with iUniverse?
I have published four books with iUniverse. I must say that my experience was great. I love how they had me involved in every publishing process. The staff is friendly and courteous. I will recommend this publishing company to anyone who wants to publish a book.
Finally, what advice would you give to aspiring authors?
My advice to aspiring writers is to keep writing if you have a passion for it. To become a successful author is not an easy process. It takes hard work and determination. Work on your craft daily and do not expect immediate success.
