The Frankfurt Book Fair takes place on October 10-14, 2012. It is the world’s largest gathering of the global publishing industry based on the number of publishing companies represented, as well as the number of visitors.
Each year the Frankfurt Book Fair is seen as the most important meeting place for experts in the publishing industry: booksellers, agents, film producers, and authors.
In addition, representatives from book publishing and multimedia companies from all over the world assemble in order to negotiate international publishing rights and licensing fees.
Since 1976 a country has been chosen as the Guest of Honor. This is a special opportunity for writers to represent their country and culture. The 2012 Guest of Honor this year is New Zealand.
With a history spanning more than 500 years, the Frankfurt Book Fair is considered to be the most important book fair in the world for international deals and trading.
The importance of the festival traces back to Gutenberg’s invention of movable type in Mainz near, Frankfurt. From this beginning it rose from a humble book fair to the most important in Europe. Now, more than 7,000 exhibitors from over 100 countries and more than 286,000 visitors take part each year.
