A.C. Bell and new book, “The Last Button on Ole Abraham’s Jacket”

iUniverse’s A.C. Bell discusses The Last Button on Ole Abraham’s Jacket.

Please briefly describe your book . . .

The Last Button on Ole Abraham’s Jacket is about a career woman that establishes herself as a top-producer within a male dominant sales environment.  Then family crisis emerges when her father who’s the primary caregiver for her Mom becomes deathly ill.  Abigail is then faced with a pivotal choice to honor her father’s dying wish or launch herself into the career of her dreams, shattering glass ceilings and rising to executive status.

And can you tell us a little about yourself?

I’m a writer, caregiver, and entrepreneur.  I enjoy participating in local writing forums. I love reading works of both established and aspiring authors.  Also, I have written several poems, and short stories.  I may publish a collection of these works, in the near future.

Do you have any particular literary influences? What inspired you to write your book?

I have been influenced by a wide range of writing styles and genres from both the past and the present like C.S. Lewis, Maya Angelo, Kathern Lockett and Lisa Genova. I was inspired to write, The Last Button on Ole Abraham’s Jacket, after a life changing event took place for me personally. Writing this novel was more of a cathartic experience.  In the same way, I hope readers can take the journey with Abigail as she uncovers the invaluable treasures of faith, love and charity.

What is the one message you would like to convey to your readers?

I want readers to see the growing need of those closest to them and the courage of those who rise to the challenge to care for them. There are two mottos for life that I’ve taken from both my Dad and sister. “Charity starts at home and spreads abroad” and “Love is an Action Word.”

Are you working on a sequel to your book?

There’s no sequel to this book.

Are there any events, marketing ideas, or promotions planned for your book?

I received Editors Choice Award from iUniverse. I plan to collaborate with local charities that support Caregivers.

What was your favorite part of your publishing experience, overall and with iUniverse?

My favorite part of my publishing experience was the encouragement I felt after receiving Editor’s Choice.  My overall experience with iUniverse’s publishing process was both enlightening and educational. The editorial review was very beneficial in helping me convey my story affectively while maintaining the heart and soul of my characters.

Finally, what advice would you give to aspiring authors?

My advice to aspiring authors is to stay positive, persistent and proactive in working on your book project.  Your book is your vision that you are bringing into the hearts and minds of others. Be faithful to that vision by writing each day at least 500 words until your manuscript is complete.  Once your manuscript is completed take advantage of the Editorial services provided by iUniverse to help give your project the professional polish needed to present your vision to the world.
