Sean L. Johnson tells us about Adventure of Heroes: A Turn of Events, the second volume in his Adventure of Heroes series!
Please briefly describe your book . . .
The series Adventure of Heroes features eight young heroes on a journey to uncover what’s going on with two dimensions and they’re learning about the Great War between the Damonarian versus Quinoragoras races. Also, they’re seeking information how some of them were changed into cross-humans… humans who gained supernatural abilities by seeking assistance from mentor Xanpo and his comrades.
And can you tell us a little about yourself?
I am a creative and outgoing person. I can be an introvert too. I love exploring new places. This helps me come up with new ideas to implement into my created universe. Right now I am calling it VH UNIVERSE. Other than exploring, I am Active Duty Military, serving in the U.S. Navy. I am an active volunteer, helping out at several organizations.
Do you have any particular literary influences? What inspired you to write your book?
At the ages of 10 – 12 I loved watching Cartoon Network and many other Anime-style television series. As I watched the shows, an idea for my own character came to mind. As I grew older the world started to make a little more sense. It was all bits and pieces in my mind until I started college. This is when I decided to start writing everything out on paper so I wouldn’t forget. There are books like Harry Potter and Don’t Hurt Laurie and A Child Called IT which influenced my will to want people to hear what I have to say.
What is the one message you would like to convey to your readers?
Although I write fantasy, with a dab of real elements throughout the series, I want readers to be able to connect with my characters. I am a person who observes when I’m around people and don’t say much at first. I get to know a person and learn about them. A few of my characters are going through realistic problems in life. Not to give anything away, but there are tear-jerker and “what-the-f____” moments!
Are you working on a sequel to your book?
Adventure of Heroes: A New Blend is the first volume and Adventure of Heroes: A Turn of Events is the second volume. I am finalizing Volume III at the moment. These three are continuous with my other series, VLORs & VICE. I have three volumes out and I took a pause until Adventure of Heroes concludes after volume III. I’ll start finishing VLORs & VICE volume IV.
Are there any events, marketing ideas, or promotions planned for your book?
So far, no. However, I do have a Facebook Page… VHUniverse.
What was your favorite part of your publishing experience, overall and with iUniverse?
The easy to work with schedule, sending all materials online easily, and communicating was perfect. Being deployed, it’s hard to communicate but I was able to continue the publishing process just fine. This is the first year I started working with iUniverse and first time in the U.S. Navy.
Finally, what advice would you give to aspiring authors?
You must get started now! The smallest idea (or ideas) … jot them down on paper in outline form. If it’s a form of a story or play, do a timeline. It’ll get easier as you move forward!
