This year, four iUniverse titles are finalists for Eric Hoffer awards!  The Eric Hoffer Award honors the memory of the great American philosopher Eric Hoffer by highlighting salient writing, as well as the independent spirit of small publishers. Since its inception, the Hoffer has become one of the largest international book awards for small, academic, and independent presses.

Congratulations to each of the authors below. We note that Tony Taylor has TWO titles that are up for awards. Well done, Tony!

Counters, by Tony Taylor – Eric Hoffer Book Award Finalist

Counters Tony TaylorSet during the turbulent era of the Vietnam War, Counters is a quirky, thrilling story of air combat and of the young fighter pilots who blend the harsh reality of war with youth’s untamed urges. As the pilot of a sleek F-4C Phantom II, self-doubting Lieutenant Steve Mylder fights for his life in the skies above Vietnam in 1967 but battles for his soul against the Red Baron of his imagination.

The Darkest Side of Saturn, by Tony Taylor – Eric Hoffer Book Award Finalist

Darkest Saturn tony taylorIt’s 1997 at a mountaintop observatory in Southern California where spacecraft navigator Harris Mitchel and astronomer Diana Muse-Jones discover a dangerous asteroid which may hit the earth within two decades. As the asteroid tumbles through space towards an uncertain impact, Harris and Diana fight bitterly over how to announce their discovery.

In this science-fiction drama the characters battle each other in contests of “Damn your world view!”, against a background of hard science, religion, romance, metaphysical speculation, and the forces of nature versus human passions and dreams. Meanwhile an asteroid hurtles through the solar system and global salvation or disaster hangs in the balance.
